Summary of Past Rides

2006Beemers and Friends Motorbike Group -c.jpg - 4.49 Kb

Zanzibar, Stone Town February 24- Mar 3 – 3 Bikes - Dist Long
This was a week plus a few days long ride and judging from the pics and the 900 km day ride from Moshi to Dar was a super trip

Ndakaini March 26th Sunday Day Trip – 6 bikes Dist about 180 kms round trip
Half Day and in need of an alternate route back to Nairobi as one way through Thika road is too much – hundreds of matatus and bad dual carriage road is Mayhem redefined.

Aberdares over Easter Don’t have details

Crossing the ewaso river.jpg - 77.42 Kb

Road to Ewaso escarpment.JPG - 78.56 Kb
Ewaso Kedong April 30th Sunday Day Trip – 4 bikes 1 land cruiser - Dist 160 kms round trip. All day tough stuff (not for the faint hearted) but fun nevertheless, take pack lunch and book your full body massage for after, 110 kms one way i.e. Ngong to Ewaso town, 0 traffic. A truly unforgettable adventure ride

Kijabe Sept 3rd - Short 3 hour trip - 6 bikes - Dist 120 kms round trip
Too short unless you have lunch at Java after to plan a looong trip

Lake Bogoria November 10, 11, 12 - 3 days -7 bikes - Dist 200 kms per day Total 600 kms
One of the most complete rides I’ve been on and highly recommended esp. Kembu Campsites, excellent atmosphere, but damn those cottage beds are lousy

Castle Forest Lodge Mt Kenya Dec 9th and 10th - 2 days
– 2 bikes - Dist 300 kms rt
Excellent lodge and loads of eles, nice ride esp. through Masinga on second day, again Thika road and Sunday jams can spoil an otherwise super ride

Most if not all are easily replicable, but we aim always to ride to new destinations please send your comments and ideas for additional trips and brief report on rides you’ve done already.

2007

L.Magadi Sunday 25th March 2007 – 4 bikes 4 riders Nice ride, go beyond the lake to the “hot springs’ and add 25 kms of gravel road (on your cv, those with little off road exp) and onto the lake bed .The tar roads been repaired. It’s still an amazing trip if you want to open up your throttle, watch those climbs and blind drops though.

Kapiti Plains Breakfast Run - Sunday 15th April 2007 -2 bikes 2 riders- Karen-Whistling Thorns-Kajiado-Muroro -Kiu-Salama- -Athi River-Nairobi-back, some 80 kms of 245 kms is super “all weather” road recently graded, it won’t be that way for long. A highly recommended one day outing. Start early 9 am and end at Small World Country Club by 3 pm.

The lower road has now been redone and offers the more attractive option of less traffic, just watch those sleepy truck drivers. HGNP is one of 2 parks in Kenya that will allow bikes but check to confirm though salomeg@kws.org.

23 rd June 2007-Off road Riding Course/Workshop 2 trainers–3 students We held a one day Off-Road and General motorcycle riding course through Dagoretti forest trail on over the side of the ngong hills. The location was ideal and had a variety of terrains to practice on and build confidence. Quite a few of us had expressed interest and confirmed they would show but had to cancel at the last minute.Marigat River Crossing.JPG - 170.58 Kb

October 13th - 17th 2007 Lake Turkana via Lodwar–A memorable and wonderful 5 days ride to Lake Turkana via Lodwar. 2 bikes and 2 riders. Stayed at Lake Turkana Fishing Lodge. A much recommended way to “bike up” to see the lake. Careful with the photos of turkana they are aggressive, (they ate all the lions in the region and that if nothing else will make you aggressive). 15th -16th December 2007- A weekend ride and overnight camping in the direction of Nyahururu, Laikipia Rhino Reserve (Mukutan)  around Lake Baringo and down (south) again to Bogoria and back home. Camp at the Rhino Reserve or Baringo-but that's the
